The Election Commission derecognises seven regional parties in some states -- Samata Party in Haryana, Shiv Sena in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and the RJD in Manipur, NTR-Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh, the Samajwadi Janata Party (Rashtriya) in Chandigarh, the United Minority Front in Assam and the Haryana Vikas Party in Haryana-- These will remain registered but unrecognised parties.

8/4/1997Supreme Court declares that the Rashtrapati Bhavan press communique of 23/1/1992 on a proposal to confer the Bharat Ratna 'posthumously' on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose ""should be treated as cancelled"", as the proposal was dropped by the Government in deference to the sentiments expressed by the public and his family members.

4/1/1933Indian Air Force was established at Drigh Road in Karachi (now in Pakistan). Subroto Mukherjee and four other officers were inducted as pilots when the first Indian Air Force Squadron was formed. The first aircraft flight joined the Indian Air Force, at that time it possessed a strength of six RAF-trained officers and 19 Havai Sepoys (literally, air soldiers); its aircraft inventory comprised four Westland Wapiti II. A army co-operation biplaned at Drigh Road as the ""A"" Flight nucleus of the planned No.1 (Army Co-operation) Squadron.
