Historical Event on 11/21/1947

First postal stamp of indepedent India of three and half annas denomination was started. Major General Cariappa took over from Lieutenant General Sir Francies Tulker as the Army Commander, Eastern Command, in the rank of Lieutenant General.

10/30/1947The first Spitfires from the Advanced Flying School at Ambala reached Srinagar and were soon engaged in strafing the raiders beyond Pattan. 6/28/1972Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis died. He was the first founder of Indian statistical Institute to receive world recognition. In 1958, he started his national sample surveys. A Sample survey means assessing a situation by studying a part of it which would represent the whole, some of his proposals were included in the second five year paln. His original work made him elected as fellow of the Royal society in 1945.
