10/27/1947Indian Governments accepts King of Jammu and Kashmir Maharaja Harisingh's accession merging Jammu and Kashmir in India and sends its troops. Accession of Jammu and Kashmir was then officially announced. No. 12 Sqn was to initiate the remarkable feat of air-lifting the first Sikhs from Palam onto the rough and dusty Srinagar airstrip without planning or reconnaissance as the initial Indian response to the sizeable insurgent forces that were pouring across the border into Jammu and Kashmir.
8/1/1920Bipin Chandra Pal opposed to the Non Co-operation Movement and retired from politics, but movement was approved by Congress.
2/5/1922Gandhiji, following Chauri Chaura (U.P.) tragedy in which 22 police constables and one sub-inspector were burnt to death by a mob, fasts for five days and abandons plan of satyagraha movement.
6/7/1979Bhaskara-I, first experimental satellite for Earth resources/meteorology remote sensing and the Second Satellite of India, launched. This satellite carried TV and microwave cameras. It was launched by Russian launch vehicle 'Intercosmos'.
